About Us

Dr. C. Thomas Yacks, Ph.D., a regarded professional in the Special Education field, combines his extensive background in Special Education, Audiology and Speech Pathology with his work in the medical field to develop free appropriate educational plans and programs.

Education:

  • Dr. Yacks received his Bachelor of Science (B.A.) degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1971. Following his graduation, he worked in the public schools as a Speech Pathologist for 2 years prior to returning to the University of Cincinnati to pursue graduate studies.
  • Dr. Yacks received his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Audiology in 1975 and
  • He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 1978.

Experience:

  • While completing his studies, Dr. Yacks assumed the Chief of Audiology position at E.N.T. Associates of Cincinnati, Inc. At E.N.T. Associates of Cincinnati, Inc. Dr. Yacks evaluated thousands of patients for hearing acuity, hearing loss and balance-related problems.
  • In 1983, he established Anderson Hearing and Speech Services to provide hearing and speech communication strategies for children and adults. This included hearing evaluations, rehabilitation and vestibular/balance testing.
  • Also in 1983, Dr. Yacks began his post-secondary educational teaching career at the College of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. As an Instructor, he taught: Introduction to Speech Therapy, Nature and Processes of Audition, Phonetics, Introduction to Audiology and Anatomy and Physiology of Hearing and Speech Mechanisms. He also served as Advisor and mentor for StartSchoolNow.
  • In 1992, Dr. Yacks returned to public education as a Speech-Language Pathologist for the Brown County ESC;
  • In 2002, Dr. Yacks became Coordinator of Special Education for Fayetteville-Perry Local Schools. As Coordinator, he assumed responsibility for directing, developing, implementing and overseeing all aspects of providing FAPE to children with special needs and developmental disabilities.

 

Professional Services

Dr. Yacks has gained the reputation and respect as a knowledgeable and effective member of a “child with special needs” team. As a member of that team, Dr. Yacks can provide:

Effective communication with legal team members

A liaison between you, the school and the medical and para-medical professionals

Dr. Yacks is also available to speak to educators, parent advisory groups and other interested parties on the intricacies and strategies of educating children with special needs.
